What is anime?

What is Anime?                                       Ever thought about what is the difference between anime and cartoons or where the term anime came from. Well most otakus will say anime and cartoons are different and it's a pretty rough debate out there on this point. Talking about the definition anime is short-form for animation and refers to japanese animation or cartoons as some might call it(a.k.a japanimation for short).                                      So, currently, as far as the dictionary is concerned anime is just slang for cartoons from Japan and not much more and otaku belief is the only thing keeping the fine line between anime and cartoon and we hope it will soon be a genre of it's own.
